Why GIF Files Are So Large

The GIF format was created in 1987 and was never designed for high-quality video animation. A GIF stores each frame of an animation as a separate, uncompressed image using a limited 256-color palette. A 10-second GIF can easily exceed 20MB, making it slow to load and expensive to host, which ruins the user experience on mobile devices and violates modern web performance standards.
