Frequently asked questions

Are the sizes officially compliant?
Yes, the tool uses the official mm/inch dimensions required by each country's government (e.g., 2x2 inches for US, 35x45mm for UK/EU).
Does this tool remove the background?
No. You should take your photo against a plain white or off-white wall as required by passport agencies. If you need background removal, use our AI BG Remover tool first.
Can I print these photos at a pharmacy?
Yes. Download the image and print it as a standard 4x6 photo (we will add a template feature soon to place multiple passport photos on one 4x6 sheet).
What countries are supported?
We support major formats including US, UK, Schengen/EU, India, China, Australia, Canada, and many more.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. All cropping and processing happens locally in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

Official Passport Photo Requirements

Government portals for passports, visas, and ID cards have strict biometric photo requirements. The most common size globally is 2x2 inches (51x51 mm) for the US and India, or 35x45 mm for the UK, Europe, and Australia. The subject's head must occupy a specific percentage of the frame, the background must be plain white or off-white, and the file size is often restricted to under 240KB.

Preparing Digital Submissions

Our tool helps you crop your photo to the exact required aspect ratio and compresses the file to meet strict government upload limits without degrading the facial details required for biometric scanning. For best results, take your photo in bright, even natural light facing a window, stand two feet away from a white wall to avoid shadows, and maintain a neutral expression.
