The Challenge of Converting PDF to Word
Unlike a Word document, which contains a flow of text and structural elements (like paragraphs and headers), a PDF is essentially a fixed canvas. Text in a PDF is stored as isolated characters positioned at exact X/Y coordinates. Converting a PDF back to Word requires sophisticated algorithms to analyze these coordinates, group characters into words, words into paragraphs, and reconstruct the original document flow.
Best Practices for Conversion
Conversion works best on "native" PDFs—those created directly from a digital source like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. If your PDF is a scanned document, it consists only of images of text. In those cases, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is required to extract the text before it can be converted into an editable Word document format.
