Why won't my MOV file play everywhere?
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. Many apps, especially on Windows and Android, expect MP4 instead.
Will converting reduce quality?
When the video's codec is already compatible, we simply repackage the file (remux) with no quality loss. Otherwise we transcode, which is visually near-identical.
What's the maximum file size?
Uploads are capped at 100MB.
Is my video stored anywhere?
No. The file is processed and deleted immediately after your download completes.
Do I actually need to convert my iPhone videos?
Only if you hit a compatibility wall. iPhones save clips as .mov, which plays fine inside Apple's ecosystem but is often rejected by Windows apps, Android phones, and some upload forms. If a site won't accept your .mov or a friend can't open it, converting to MP4 fixes it. If everything already plays, there's no need.
What about HEVC (H.265) MOV files?
Newer iPhones record in HEVC (H.265) for smaller files. HEVC isn't universally supported, so if playback fails even after remuxing to an MP4 container, the video itself needs transcoding to H.264 — the most compatible codec — which this tool does automatically when required.

MOV to MP4: Why iPhone Videos Often Need Converting

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container format, and it's what every iPhone and iPad uses to save recorded video. Inside Apple's world it works flawlessly, but the moment a .mov file leaves that ecosystem — emailed to a Windows user, uploaded to a platform that expects MP4, or dropped into an Android video editor — it frequently refuses to play. MP4 is the universal standard that solves this. The conversion itself is usually quick and lossless, but understanding why explains the occasional slow one.

Container vs. codec, in Apple terms

MOV and MP4 are closely related containers — MP4 was actually derived from the QuickTime format — so in many cases converting is just a matter of repackaging the same video and audio streams into an MP4 wrapper. This is called remuxing, and because nothing is re-compressed, it is instant and 100% quality-preserving. Whenever the underlying codec is already MP4-friendly (typically H.264), that's exactly what happens here.

The HEVC wrinkle on newer iPhones

Since iOS 11, iPhones default to recording in HEVC (H.265), a more efficient codec that halves file size but is not supported everywhere. If your MOV uses HEVC, simply changing the container to MP4 may still leave it unplayable on older devices. In that situation the video stream has to be transcodedto H.264 — the most broadly compatible codec in the world — which takes longer and involves a tiny, generally invisible quality trade-off. The payoff is a file that plays on essentially anything made in the last fifteen years.

When to keep the original MOV

If you edit primarily in Final Cut Pro, iMovie, or other Apple software, the native MOV may be the better master to work from — convert a copy to MP4 only for sharing and delivery. Keeping your original untouched means you always have the highest-quality source to re-export from later.
