Writing an FAQ That Actually Helps
A good FAQ section is one of the highest-return pieces of content you can add to a site: it answers real doubts at the moment they arise, removes friction before a purchase, and quietly cuts down on repetitive support emails. A generated draft gives you a fast starting set of questions and answers, but turning it into a genuinely useful FAQ takes a few deliberate choices.
Ask the questions people really ask
The best FAQs come from real sources: your support inbox, sales calls, live-chat logs, and the "People also ask" box on Google for your topic. Prioritise the questions that block a decision — pricing, refunds, delivery, compatibility, safety — over trivia. Use the generated list as a prompt, then replace or reorder items so the ones your customers truly care about come first.
Answer concisely, then link deeper
An FAQ answer should resolve the question in two or three sentences, in plain language, without marketing spin. If a topic genuinely needs more, give the short answer first and link to a fuller page. Above all, make sure every answer is true for your business: edit the draft so prices, policies, and specifics match reality, since a confidently wrong FAQ erodes trust faster than no FAQ at all.
What to expect from FAQ schema today
You may have heard that marking up an FAQ with structured data earns those expandable Q&As in Google results. That was largely phased out for most websites in 2023, so it is no longer a reliable reason to build an FAQ. The durable payoff is different and arguably better: FAQs match the natural, question-shaped way people search, and their clear question-and-answer format is exactly what AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers pull from when they cite a source.
