Writing Facebook Ad Headlines That Convert
In a Facebook ad, the headline is the bold line beneath your image that carries the offer. The image earns the pause and the primary text sets context, but the headline is where a scroller decides whether to act. Generating a batch of options is the fast way to find angles; these principles help you choose and refine the ones worth spending budget on.
Lead with the benefit, not the feature
People don't buy features; they buy outcomes. "Save 3 hours a week" beats "Automated scheduling tool," because it names what the customer actually gets. When you scan your generated headlines, favour the ones that promise a clear result — time saved, money made, a problem gone — over the ones that merely describe the product.
Match the headline to the campaign goal
A headline built for clicks (curiosity, a question) is different from one built for sales (a discount, a guarantee) or awareness (a memorable brand promise). Decide the single action you want before you choose, and let that goal set the tone. A headline trying to do everything at once usually does nothing well.
Be clear, and stay within the rules
Clever loses to clear almost every time — if a reader has to decode your headline, they scroll on. It's also worth knowing Facebook's advertising policies: avoid exaggerated or unverifiable claims, and don't assert or imply personal attributes about the viewer ("Are you overweight?" style copy is disallowed). Review every generated headline for both truthfulness and compliance before it goes live.
